Natural Loofah
What Is Loofah?
The Loofah is an all year-round climbing plant with beautiful yellow flowers. Its fruits are cylindrical and during ripening the interior is transformed into a dense network of fibers somewhat like a mesh. It is the only plant known that can be raised and used as a sponge. The fruit is harvested before maturity to be eaten as a vegetable that is similar in appearance to a cucumber. If the fruits are allowed to mature they can grow to around 60 cm in length and 7 cm in diameter. As the fruit matures it is left to dry on the vine, then peeled and cut to produce flat pieces of loofah material which is then be sown with a hemp backing to produce our range of loofah products. The loofah material is very strong, and even with daily use will last for months.
A significant advantage of hemp is that it can be grown and processed without the chemical treatments needed for other plant materials.
Loofah products are very versatile in that they can be used for bathing and household use.
The popularity of loofah for personal hygiene products is due to the gentle exfoliating effect the fibres have on the skin. It deep cleanses and conditions your skin naturally.
